Kings Family Restaurants crown Smith Brothers Advertising as Agency of Record

Pittsburgh, PA May 16, 2003 – Having just been tapped as Kings Family Restaurants’ agency of record, Smith Brothers Advertising plans to give their new client the royal treatment. “We’re excited by the opportunity to partner with Kings and touch their business on a variety of levels. Instead of just simply “doing ads,” we will be immersing ourselves in operations, food & beverage, etc to come up with programs and initiatives to help Kings continue to build positive momentum in all areas,” said Cliff Rankin, Smith Brothers’ Director of Client Services.

Over a year ago, Kings began making significant operational changes - menu improvements, training programs, location renovations, customer feedback sessions and more – to improve their customers’ overall dining experience and solidify their position as the region’s best casual family restaurant. Choosing Smith Brothers marks a new beginning for Kings, who, after a year of hard work at the operations level, are now ready to “get the word out” that change is in the air at this regional restaurant icon.

“We didn’t want to simply pay lip service to better service and better food in our advertising. We knew we had to significantly improve service and food quality internally before communicating these improvements externally,” said Jim Harrington, Vice President of Marketing for Kings.

Based on the high rankings Kings received in recent customer satisfaction surveys, the improvements have clearly made a difference. “We knew we were making strides and the positive survey results confirmed it. Now it’s time to let people know that when they come into Kings, they can expect a ‘new and improved’ dining experience,” said Jim Thompson, Director of Operations.

In preparation for its agency review, Kings provided regional market survey findings to top Pittsburgh Agencies as ‘food for thought’ in preparing a proposed communications strategy.
