Dining Single Launches Premiere Event for Boston’s Single Professionals

By Anonymous

Boston, MA May 4, 2003 -- Boston’s best restaurants are partnering with the city’s newest singles events organization. Dining Single events bring together delicious food and lively conversation, while allowing singles to meet in a pressure-free environment.

Although last June Forbes chose Boston as “the Best Place to be Single in America,” Boston is often regarded as a town where singles have difficulty connecting. Many people feel that the bar scene caters to groups of people who don’t diverge from their original groups or those who are looking for a fling. Others who resort to dating services and singles events find the emphasis on the interpersonal connections, rather than the evening’s experience. Dining Single bridges these gaps by providing events at Boston’s top restaurants where guests, attending alone or in groups, experience an enjoyable evening of fine dining while meeting new people.

Trio and Epiphany hosted the premiere “restaurant-hop” on May 1st, where guests enjoyed a three-course dinner across the two restaurants. Common interests dictated the pre-arranged group seating for each course, allowing guests to meet as many people as possible throughout the evening. All connections were facilitated by the web site after the event so that, during the event, guests were able to focus on the food and the new people they met.

Sean, a Marketing Manager attended the event and said, “I never had so much fun with strangers. I go out to eat with friends all the time, but they are not very adventurous about trying new places. This was such a great way for me to enjoy the new places. I came for the food, but left having had a wonderful experience.”

Alissa, an art director who also attended the event, stated, “Dining Single is a great way to enjoy delicious food and good company without the awkwardness. Halfway through the first course we were already talking about seeing each other at the next event!”

Sierra Towers, owner of Epiphany Restaurant was impressed by how well the evening went. She said, “Everyone had an amazing time. The event participants seemed very relaxed and not under pressure, because they were not forced to be one-on-one, but they could make a connection at the same time. Everyone seemed very happy.”

Dining Single events take place on a regular basis. The next event will take place on Tuesday, May 20 at Fire & Ice in Harvard Square. To learn more about or register for this event or to view photographs from past events, visit www.diningsingle.com. If you have further questions or are interested in hosting an event, contact Dining Single at info@diningsingle.com or 617-927-7500.

J&B Restaurant Partners Raises Over $115,000 For Easter Seals

By Anonymous

J&B Restaurant Partners, Inc. (J&B), operators of all Friendly’s restaurants on Long Island, made a commitment to help others in the communities in which their restaurants are located. Once again, they have fulfilled that commitment and have achieved phenomenal results. In six weeks, Friendly’s Long Island raised approximately $115,000 for Easter Seals during its recent “Cones For Kids” program, a 60% increase over last year’s total. “We at J&B are thrilled with the results of this year’s campaign. To have such a large increase in a difficult economic time highlights the value of the program and enables us to make a difference for people with disabilities that live in the communities where our restaurants are located,” explained Jamie Fahey, J&B’s Director of Operations for Friendly’s Restaurants.

Friendly’s initiated “Cones for Kids” in 1981, and money saving coupons for food and ice cream have been popular ever since. To date, Friendly’s has raised approximately $20 million for Easter Seals. The money raised by Long Island Friendly’s restaurants remains in the local Long Island community and helps children and adults with disabilities from Long Island. This is especially important to J&B president and CEO Joe Vitrano, who views each J&B Friendly’s restaurant as an integral part of the community in which it is located. “We are a neighborhood family business,” explains Vitrano, “And our corporate commitment is to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.” Everyone who works at J&B, regardless of position, has become personally committed and enthusiastic about the corporate concept of giving back to the communities in which J&B restaurants are located. For example, J&B’s District Manager, Joe Sabbatino led his district to raise over $46,000; another District Manager, Christine Desjardins had the highest collections as a percent of sales and raised over $20,000 in three restaurants and Restaurant Managers Gladys Gil, Ibrahim Osman and Suzanne Kubicsko (Bellmore, New Hyde Park and East Islip) led their restaurants to help achieve J&B’s phenomenal results.

As part of its support to Easter Seals, J&B, who is Nassau Community College’s food service operators, donated, catered and hosted the official “Kick-off” luncheon of the 2003 Easter Seals program for the New York area at the college. Anti-stigma was the theme and those being honored included three Long Island teachers and members of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Ross Szabo, Youth Spokesperson, National Mental Health Awareness Campaign and Langley II, a canine who is committed to helping his companion, a young Long Island child, to lead a normal life.

“We’re committed to supporting philanthropic efforts on Long Island,” explains Joe Vitrano. “When you see the great results achieved and when you meet the people whose lives you have touched such as that little boy with the amazing dog that was honored at our kick-off luncheon … it feels great to know you’ve helped to make such a difference.” Easter Seals Chief Operating Officer Christine McMahon agrees. “Friendly’s Long Island really is committed to help us make an impact on Long Island, and in the lives of disabled individuals.”
